Neurodivergences
Acquired Neurodivergence
These are neurodivergent states that are not inborn but result from an injury or illness.
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI): Brain damage caused by an external force, which can lead to lasting changes in cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning.
Long COVID / Post-COVID Syndrome: For some individuals, the neurological effects of a COVID-19 infection can lead to persistent, divergent cognitive functioning (e.g., "brain fog," memory issues, executive dysfunction).
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) & Complex PTSD (C-PTSD): While classified as mental health disorders, the profound and lasting changes to brain structure and function (particularly in threat response and memory) lead many to consider them forms of acquired neurodivergence.
