Psychologika

"Therapy is not for people who are broken. It is for people who are ready to understand themselves a little better."
If you have ever found yourself wondering whether therapy might help you — but then quickly talked yourself out of it — you are not alone. Many people hesitate for weeks, months, or even years before reaching out. The good news is that reading this is already a first step.
At Psychologika, we work with individuals, couples, and groups across a wide range of challenges. Below we answer the most common questions we hear from people who are curious but not quite sure where to begin.
What exactly is therapy?
Therapy — also called psychotherapy or counselling — is a structured, professional relationship in which a trained clinician helps you explore your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and life experiences. It is not advice-giving, it is not just venting, and it is certainly not a sign of weakness.
- Depending on your needs, therapy can take many forms at Psychologika:
- Psychotherapy (depth work on long-standing patterns)
- Counselling (focused support for a specific challenge)
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Trauma therapy & EMDR
- Mindfulness-based approaches
- Life coaching & personal development
- Couples & relationship therapy
- Neurodiversity support (ADHD, Autism, etc.)
Who is therapy actually for?
Short answer: almost everyone, at some point in their life. Therapy is not only for people in crisis. It is equally valuable for people who are functioning well but want to understand themselves more deeply, improve their relationships, or navigate a life transition.
- People come to us for many reasons, including:
- Anxiety, stress or constant worry
- Depression or low mood
- Relationship difficulties
- Grief and loss
- Trauma or past abuse
- Expat life and cultural adjustment
- Burnout or work-related stress
- Identity or self-esteem questions
- ADHD, Autism or learning differences
- Panic attacks or phobias
- Life transitions (new country, divorce, career change)
- Simply wanting to grow
Busting the most common myths
Myth
"Only people with serious mental illness need therapy."
Therapy is for anyone who wants support — regardless of diagnosis.
Myth
"Therapy means talking about your childhood forever."
Many approaches are present-focused and solution-oriented from the very first session.
Myth
"I should be able to handle this on my own."
Seeking help is a strength, not a failure. We all need support at different times.
Myth
"Online therapy isn't real therapy."
Research consistently shows online therapy is as effective as in-person for most conditions.
How to start — 5 simple steps
- Acknowledge that something feels off: You do not need a diagnosis or a crisis. If something is weighing on you, that is enough reason to reach out.
- Choose the right type of support: Browse our Services page to get a feel for what might suit your needs — from counselling to psychotherapy to coaching. Not sure? Contact us and we will guide you.
- Book a first consultation: An initial session is simply a conversation. There is no commitment, no pressure. It is a chance for both of you to see if the fit feels right.
- Show up — that is the hardest part: The first session can feel strange or even emotional. That is completely normal. Your therapist will guide the pace.
- Give it time: Therapy is not a quick fix. Real change takes time, but most people notice a shift — in clarity, mood, or self-understanding — within just a few sessions.
The first step is often the bravest one. Everything that follows becomes a little easier.
